We specialize in Solano County grown wool, but there is are some wool yarn kits from Ashford. May, 2025: The 2024 and 2025 Timm Ranch wool is at the mill now. If you visit the shop you’ll find some of the naturally dyed TR yarn here, but it’s too hard to keep it updated on-line. I have only a few skeins of Jacob yarn here and am waiting for the rest of the 2024 yarn and 2025 yarn.
Solano Color Sport-weight Yarn - Naturally dyed
Solano Color Sport-weight Yarn - Naturally dyed
This is our exclusive sport weight Timm Ranch yarn in 2-ounce skeins (TR-22), naturally dyed with plants from the farm. Yarn is 2-ply. The fiber from this “ranch blend” of Rambouillet - Targhee - Polypay measured 20.4 microns.
Each 2-ounce skein is labeled 186 yards because that is the measurement from the mill based on yards/pound. After dyeing I’m winding about 160 yards from each.
Current selections (in order as in the first photo):
Yellow - dahlia flowers
Blue-green - dark purple hollyhock flowers
Orange shades - Cosmos flowers
Red shades - madder root
Photos show that each skein may have a mix of shades. Mix and match colors for a unique project using this very soft yarn.

Exclusive! Locally grown wool yarn from the Timm Ranch in Solano County, California. Our 2021 Timm Ranch yarn is a beautiful creamy white 2-ply sport weight yarn. I selected 230 pounds of the finest wool on the Timm’s shearing day. I skirted fleeces and shipped the wool to Mountain Meadow Wool in Wyoming where it was scoured, carded, and spun. There is a minor amount of vegetable matter in the yarn because Mountain Meadow does not use any chemical process to remove it.
