Camera Experiments Across the Road

I took time about a week ago, on one of those days when the January sun felt so good, to experiment more with my new iPhone’s camera.

Solano County landscape

I stood in one spot and took three photos. This is the wide-angle view (.5 on the screen).

Solano County landscape and mustard flowers

This is “normal”—the 1 x view.

This is a close-up, 3 x on the screen.

I continued to zoom and got this.

Ginny, red border collie

Ginny was waiting for me to throw the ball but I took two views of her.

I think this one captured her intensity.

This photo almost doesn’t belong here, but I took it for a reason. I had walked down the steep bank of the canal because there is a pool here where I would swear there is something unusual—maybe the Sweeney Canal Monster? A couple of weeks ago I saw a fish from way up on the bank. I don’t normally notice fish here, especially from that distance. This one had a distinct white tail and I think it was 18” long! Could it be Sweeney Canal Koi? At that time I walked down to the water and couldn’t see the fish again but I could tell from the movement of the water that there was something moving underneath, and I heard big splashes but couldn’t see what caused them. I’ve been back a few times since and have seen some splashes and large ripples but with no explanation. The one and only fish photo is below. I took this by zooming way in when I was standing on the road above the canal. You’ll just have to take my word for it that that white part is the tail of a big fish. So what’s the deal with the photo above? In person this looks like a dinosaur bone and that seemed fitting since I have concocted a story about what is in this part of the canal.

Back to the regular post.

Meridian Jacobs farm

I was back on the main road and took photos of our farm. This is that wide-angle view taken from the corner of our property.

Still standing in the same location but zooming in.

Zoomed in even closer.
