Recognize a special person with a truly unique gift. A Year to Remember Blanket is designed to commemorate a special year in you or your loved one’s life. This could be the year of a wedding, birthday, graduation or any other memorable occasion. Choose the year and location and I will weave a blanket using colors that indicate the daily high temperatures for the entire year. I assign colors for each ten degree temperature range and a special yarn marks the specific date to recognize.

I weave blankets using soft wool yarn. Finished size is approximately 52” x 64”. You can choose a hem or short fringe. One customer asked for a piece sized to create a wall hanging so I wove it narrower and she had it finished for hanging.

The photos show the variety of blankets. Some of the first blankets were Christmas presents for my family recognizing weddings in Dixon, California in 1986 (me), Pullman, Washington in 1981 (my brother), Nevada City in 2009 and Vacaville in 2016 (my sons). My daughter has one for Vermont in 2011 but that’s another version. My idea was featured in a recent Handwoven magazine.

I realize that not everyone will like the same color combinations. The photo with 3 blankets in a stack shows the same stripe pattern (Vacaville, 2022) in three different colorways. I sew my label on the January end and include a card that explains the concept and gives the temperature values for each color. The last photo shows two blankets using the same temperature values but with different color choices.
