Meridian Jacobs flock grazing summer pasture.

We maintain about 65 Jacob sheep on our Solano County farm, just north of Vacaville, on the western edge of the Sacramento Valley. The main flock grazes our irrigated pasture from mid-March through November. We practice intensive grazing management strategies to aid in the health of the pasture and our sheep and to promote carbon sequestration in the soil.

All Jacob sheep are registered with the Jacob Sheep Breeders Association. However, our flock also includes a Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) ram. The crossbred lambs are sold for meat or to join spinners' flocks.

We chose Jacob sheep for their unique spotted wool and their well-deserved reputation for hardiness and good mothering ability. When planning our breeding strategy we keep in mind the importance of maintaining genetic diversity in this rare breed and we strive for the best fleece possible while not deviating from the Breed Standard.

Our breeding has paid off and we are well known for our outstanding fleeces and healthy, sturdy sheep that lamb easily and raise twins on pasture and hay alone, some of the traits of a primitive breed. We would like to welcome you to learn more about our wonderful sheep and their fabulous fiber by visiting us at one of our Open House events or by joining the Farm Club.
