The following information is adapted from Lunatic Fringe’s literature.

American Maid™ cotton was grown and processed in the U.S. The cotton is naturally colored and will darken with washing.

As with any other handwoven fabric finish (zigzag stitch, hemstitch, twist fringe) before washing. For the first washing prepare the bath—a sink full of hot tap water with 2 tablespoons of baking soda and a bit of soap. Make sure this is all well dissolved and mixed. Add the fabric and let it soak for 15 minutes with occasional agitation.Cotton lint is not washed before processing so you are washing out dirt that came from the field. The alkaline wash water will cause the colors to deepen. Roll the fabric up in a bath towel to help absorb excess water. Line dry or use the dryer. For subsequent washings your fabric may be machine washed as you would wash any other cotton fabric.
