Intro to Rigid Heddle Weaving--Weave a Rag Mat

Rigid heddle looms are small, easy to set up, and inexpensive—the perfect loom for someone who want to explore weaving without a big investment in money and space.

In this class students will have the opportunity to weave on a rigid heddle loom and also learn about how to weave with “rags” (fabric strips).

Students will choose fabric from an array of colors and patterns, cut it into strips, and weave on rigid heddle looms that are already warped and ready to go. Each weaver will go home with a unique 10” x 10” table mat/trivet and have an understanding of weaving and the use of a rigid heddle loom. Time will be spent discussing general weaving techniques and those specific to rag weaving.

This class will appeal to those who know nothing about weaving but want to try it as well as to those who already weave on a rigid heddle loom but have not tried weaving with fabric.
